desktop settings backup problem

Post by cklabyrinth »

I'm reinstalling the game on windows 7 after upgrading from XP. I saved my desktop folder before doing the switch and loading it into my new uo folder worked to put all my settings, macros and spell icons back where they're supposed to go.

Only problem is on one character, those settings have been wiped. I don't know what happened, but I had two clients open. The client for the character I was wanting to play wasn't letting my speak in ventrilo. The push to talk key wasn't going through that client for some reason, but it was for the other one. So, I swapped the character to the client that was working with ventrilo, and bam, all my icons and macros were wiped. It was like I just logged on for the first time.

Now, nothing I've tried has gotten those settings back. I've deleted my entire desktop folder and recopied it from my backup. I've tried reinstalling the client twice. The icons and macros will post for every character but the one I'm wanting to play. I've even tried replicating the way I lost that character's icons with another character I never play. I relogged that one onto another client I had, exactly as happened when all the settings wiped. It didn't do it for that character.

Anyone know how I can fix this? I've searched around in the windows settings folders and can't find anything relating to UO.

Try checking C:\Users\<name>\Appdata\Local or Roam and see if your directory is in there. I don't have my W7 loaded so I can't tell you for sure what it is.

yeah, that was close. I had looked there before, but just got done looking at EVERY folder in that directory. same place I had to put my darkfall settings when I backed them up.

the entire thread line thingy was

users>me>appdata>local>virtualstore>programs x86>uo>desktop
