Lagging

Post by Ambidextrious »

For information, this is AlphaMale.

I'm sure a lot of people have seen me lagging on my horse and I can't seem to figure out why. Initially, when I started to play on shard, I wasn't, however now I am. There's no other traffic on the IP that has been conflicting with connection. Any help?

Edit: It's not just on my horse either in case you were wondering. It's EVERYWHERE.

I have been lagging on and off as well. Hasnt really been that bad, but since we are on the topic. I thought at first it might just be because I was multi clienting, but it doesnt seem to matter either way at times. Just an FYI

There's nothing going on on the server side that I can see that could be causing lag. We're using an extremely low amount of our available bandwidth and processor usage on the server is typically below 2%.

If anyone else is having this problem please add to the discussion and we'll see if we can't figure out what the problem is.

If you have DSL, you may try resetting your modem, as sometimes they get bunged up.

My DSL modem tends to get bunged up when i leave it one for long period. This also happens alot more when people in your neighborhood start gettng DSL, since from my experience they all run off the same line.

You may also have spyware/viruses in your computer that can be using your bandwidth. I know of a few Free and decent programs that you might want to check into.

I recommend

SpyBot-S&D for spyware. (its Free)
AVG Virus detection software (also Free)
You can dowload these at http://www.download.com Just search for it.

I hope this helps you out.

One other thing I would add is occasionally reboot your computer if you do not. Most of mine are on all of the time and only rebooted when they start running kinda cruddy. Clearing the cache with a good reboot is good, it also clears out some of the pesky resident running progs you may have had on. I almost always run better after a reboot.

I'm on 8MB(Down) Cable. I don't think it's connection :P.

Should maybe I reinstall?

Maybe fragmentation of your drive? Try running a defrag first, always a good idea before installing anyway. You want to make sure the .MUL files are all in one big block.

I'm one week ahead of you. And it didn't help in the least bit. Not too sure what it is but I suppose I can live with it.

However, on a side note, is an instillation guide on here? I D/Led UO from Mirror 1 of the D/L section and wanted to make sure it's going to work.

*Note*: I'm installing on MY computer.
