About Townkilling

Post by BloodyBandage »

I believe back in the day guards would automatically come to the aid of an innocent automatically without guards being called if a blue player was attacked. Not positive though. Just a heads up this asshole with a character named Lamer and Lamest is town killing people at bank. Not sure if he actually plays here or just griefs.

Even if the guards came instantly it wouldnt stop townkilling, theres lots of ways to kill afkers even if you get whacked. Find a quiet spot to macro, it may involve a little more travel for your resources but at least you wont risk losing valuable macrotime/items.

Okay, we all know, the suck it up and go hard speech. Let me set a different tone on the thread. Did guards come automatically to the aid of innocents when attacked in town during T2A? I believe the answer is yes because I tried to kill afk macroers and would be instantly killed without anyone calling guards. Is this definitely not the way it was?

I believe it was line of sight. It is immediate if an NPC can see the crime. I don't have anything to go on with this beyond mine and others memory though. We talked about this quite a bit in the beginning, but more info is always welcome.

Good point about the line of sight..that might have been it with the NPC's.

Sorry to bring up an old topic, but IIRC and as Derrick mentioned, NPCs should call guards if a player attacks an innocent in their line of sight correct? I know this is the case for stealing for sure, if the thief gets the "guards can now be called" message. However, I have been killed several times inside the Minoc bank near the banker NPCs and they just sit there and do not call guards, and the PK gets away without getting guard whacked. What's the deal?

I understand your grief . . . I too have been killed at least 4 NPCs were located and especially one stood next to me every so often (enticing) . . . apparently the NPCs have a thing about stealing, but could care less who kills who. I guess they don't want to be next . . . or maybe they are paid off . . .

Now I have an occational guard command with my macros. I know that won't necessarily keep me murder-proof but maybe it will help . . . and maybe it will give me a few extra items/gold we I check in every so often.

I usually have something like this in the beginning of my macro

If hits <= 99
say "guards"
Cast Gheal
Wait for target
Target self
pause 1.00
End If

That way I'm not annoying anyone else with guard spam, and it'll work as soon as you lose 1 hp (you could switch out with a bandage as well.) Granted if they're using multiple explosion pots, you're prob gonna die anyway.

yeah I've started macro'ing while throwing in the occasional "guards" as well. figure if enough people get annoyed with it, people will stop killing afk macro'ers :P. anyway, I'm like 99% positive that when I played during T2A NPCs would call guards if they saw an innocent attacked in town, but I could be wrong. Then again, the amount of afk macro'ers at banks was almost non-existent from what I remember, seeing as how it was frowned upon by OSI (I think).

you die because the Pk is out of the guard zone when the damage hits you.

its usually done with explosion or purple potions

Sorta on topic as it relates to guards and whacking - I don't think the guards are very top shelf these days. Yesterday I ran to Delucia for some business and decided to run around for both some tame gains and to kill things. I ran into quite a few frenzies right outside town, which wasn't normal, and led one back to town.

Ran around finally making my way to the bank and hid. Frenzie eats at least two folks in about ten seconds before he gets whacked. Luring frenzies into town beats the hell out of luring orcs who are slow. Macroers in Delucia should beware.

good theory, and it may be true for at least some of the deaths. however, I have witnessed myself get attacked with a spear-wielding maniac inside the bank with the NPCs right beside me, and they would not call guards. I let him take me down to ~10 hp before I called guards. I also attacked another player (with bare fists) in the Minoc tavern right beside the whole slew of NPCs in there just to test it out. They did not call guards on me either (I didn't kill the guy :P )
I should probably mention that these deaths weren't on my thief, so no I was not perma grey
