Nightmares

Post by Stranger »

This information I found from stratics during october 99 says nightmares should have roughly the same hps as dragons, a mana pool between 300-500 and that their fireballs (At full health) should do between 50 and 60 points of dmg. I dont think the fireballs are anywhere near that currently. Also it says they can cast 8th circle.

Agreed, my nightmare refuses to res me or summon earth elementals to help me farm.

I dont understand how you can justify making fun of me for somthing that is written right there on stratics oct 99.

Why do I need justification to make fun of you on internet forums?

LOLOL WELCOME2INTERNET.

Also I wasn't really making fun of anyone, I just pictured what it would be like if a monster casted 8th level spells and thats what came to mind. It's almost awesome, but certainly not true.

No mob casts 8th circle, 6 summons spells, res and an area of effect spell. The only AoE spell mobs cast is mass curse. They already cast 7th circle, so their magery is pretty high, just because they have magery capable of casting 8th circle does not mean they will cast 8th circle. And alot of information on the hunters guide is questionable, if you look at the February 00 entry for mares you will see taming skill at 95.1, while that is after out cut off date there is nothing to suggest anything re: mares were changed between the cut off point and that update.

My main concern is that their fireballs are way underpowered according to this information.

Sorry to say this but you should just forget about it and avoid ever mentioning tamer stuff again. It's a losing battle and you'll be better off in game if you aren't worried bout it.

We did have mares casting 8th circle earthquake for a short period under our interpretation of this note, however we later determined it was inaccurate and pulled it.

Our stats for the nightmare are based on Taming archive, which has proved to be a very reliable source:

Code: Select all

        //From: http://web.archive.org/web/20010501071441/www.tamingarchive.com/index.php?dir=petdatabase&article=nightmare
        //Animal Name Str Dex Int Dmg BA
        //Nightmare (T2A) 450* 90* 118* 18-29* 24-26
Mares on UOSA do have a mana pool of 300 to 500

If their mana pool is so high...why do they only cast a couple high level spells and then just shoot level 2 spells?

What happened to the nightmare spawns? I have been checking them once or twice a day for over a year now, and I used to find at least 2 a week this way. I haven't seen a single mare at any of the spawns in over a month. I've heard other tamers say similar things.

I just did a little testing, it looks to me like the change of casting a low level spell is a little high. This applies to all casting creatures.

Shouldn't it just the exact script <spellai> from the demo? I don't think there were any changes to pet spellcasting behavior between demo and end of 1999.

There are a lot of scripts that are planned for integration, however fitting each one into the RunUO framework is time consuming. When in a pinch we tweak.

Ahhhhh! OK. Wasn't being a jerk, was just trying to apply my extremely rudimentary knowledge about the base code to our shard.

Stranger... far as I can tell, nightmares were first spawned with 1000+ HP and were able to fly. There were patches that removed the flying due to a house break-in bug with patio houses, and one that lowered it's HP. Existing nightmares were grandfathered though. I do distinctly remember "pre-patch" nightmares being sold on production shards back in the day. Presumably they had the 50-pt fireballs that come with having that much HP. And I don't think they ever cast level 8 spells; Stratics is just saying they have the magery level required to do so, if those spells were in their spellbook.

Yea. Writing code for RunUO is a bitch and a half.
