Check your response times to the server.
Click Start -> Run
Type "cmd" <enter>
type "ping -t uosecondage.com"
watch the response times for spikes
Hit <ctrl>-<c> to quit
Also make sure "Smart CPU Reduction" is unchecked in Razor.

Re: LAG!!
Go to the same command prompt and do "tracert uosecondage.com"arteleis wrote:averaging 75 ms with a spike of 3741 ms? now what do I do? Guess I got a spike??
See where you are timing out/losing packets. If it is within your ISP (before it goes out into the nets), contact them. If it is elsewhere in the internets, not much you can do really.

Re: LAG!!
Would your room mayte object to you installing UO on his PC? If not, try his out -- see if it still lags.arteleis wrote:#1 and #2 timed out. My roomates computer works fine (hardwired), and this one did until about 2 weeks ago (wireless) after a windows update. Any suggestions?
If it does not lag, then it's likely something on your laptop.
* Try connecting with a wire instead of wireless (maybe you are getting interference?)
* Scan for spyware/malware/trojans
* Backup your files and do a clean reload of the OS (maybe a last resort?)
If it does lag, then problem is local network or internet related.
* Make sure your neighbors aren't stealing your bandwidth, or your roomie's not doing file sharing (or turn off his PC and try your laptop again)

Re: LAG!!
Yeah, if it is timing out on the first and second hops that is not good. That means that your router is having issues. I would check to see if there is a firmware update for your router model on the manufacturer's website. If that doesn't fix the issue, I would see if there is a driver update for your wireless NIC. If that doesn't fix the problem, then I would try a fresh install of the OS. If that doesn't work, buy a new router

Re: LAG!!
There are some things that will interfere with your wifi also. These may sound off the wall, but are accurate.
First, I assume you are using 54g wifi. This runs at 2.4Ghz. Things that cause interference are anything running around that frequency. Microwave ovens run typically at about 1000 watts at a frequency 2450 MHz. Cordless phones using the 2.4Ghz range, etc... Also this one has not been confirmed except by my own experimentation, but Nextel phones wrecked havoc on my wifi when I had a Nextel... right before they ring, they even generate a strange fuzzy noise in any speakers they are around, home stereo, and car speakers... if any cell phone can give you cancer from radiation it would be these things lol.
Second is interference from neighbors, you can try and play with the channel your router uses for wifi. Try using the 3 non-overlapping channel's first, they are 1, 6, and 11. If there is a router in close proximity to yours and is using the same channel, or close to the same channel as yours could cause problems.
I once used a crude but effective method of tracking wireless problems. I would find a huge file to download, then open perform and add a counter for bytes/sec on my wireless interface. Then I start the download, and go around my place turning things on and off and operating things like the phone, the nuker, and watch for spikes in your perform counter. This won't help determine interference from neighbors since you don't have access to their home.
A money related fix is to get high gain antenna, they are more resilient to interference...
