Rescuing Nobles and other mini-quests

Post by Edie Brickell »

So I've ran accross these tents with the red killers and the noble screamign for help. I've managed to dispatch the reds, unlock the chect and free the noble. What I haven't had any luck with is getting the noble to follow me to the town of his choice. Can this only be accomplished via Gate or is there a command to get the noble to follow you?

Also, nobles in town, how do you ask them if they want an escort or are they not the one's you can escort?

Something else, an OLD OSI quest thing I remember from way back. When I started in '97 the town criers used to yell about magic items that were in the wilderness. They'd be like "Word has it there is a magic sword NW of here." Essentially you had to hunt down all the monsters in that direction to see which one had the item. Anyone else remember this?

"I will take thee" is the key-phrase you are looking for.
And "Destination" is the other. Yes, this will work on NPC's in town too.

These quests were more often triggered by dropping gold on an NPC, but no this is not currently active, but it is planned. I don't remember the town criers ever giving these, but I might be mistaken.

That's great Derrick, and you could be right. That was a long time ago and givign gold to NPCs for "clues" sounds familiar. Then again, I was pretty cheap back then, ahrd to imagine paying NPCs for dirt that vague. I for one think implementing some sort of self-directed (i.e. starting) quest system is a wonderful idea. Once I can actually cast gate I'll be rescuing nobles left and right. I rememeber randomly spawning orc camps, killer camps, and gypsy camps back in the day....any plans for these?

Yes we do have a variety of camps. not sure about gypsy camps, I think that was later.

No, gypsy camps were definately in this time period, but these would spawn randomly...not just the MOBS but the whole camp would appear in the middle of nowhere. As I recall the gypsies weren't red but they usualyl had one or two pickable chests in their camps.

You're not talking about the big covered wagon camps then, just tents, or a firepit camp?

Riight, these were very similar to orc camps, they usually had a campfire and a chest outside and a small tent with a chest inside. Sometimes they'd randomly appear like the small orc camps did on the East Brit road. These weren't stable camps like the orc camp outside of cove as thee is now. The gypsies weren't hostile but you could pick the chests. And the reandomly spawning orc camps usually had a captive you could free like the static red NPC camps do now. Only differencei s you didn't need a key to free them and they usually gave you a reward for freeign them and another reward for taking them to the town they wanted to go to.

Neat. I don't remember these. If anyone has a screenshot of these we'd certainly get them in. There is not a model currently in game that resembles what you're describing.
Currently we have Brigand, Orc, Ratmen, and Evil Mage camps.

Look for a chest and either lock-pick it or magic unlock it. You may have to hit alt+ctl+del a few times fast to get the name to pop up. If that doesn't work, try alt+f10/f4.
