Not really. You only need walk on the steps to load house contents.Bigoud wrote:here we go, many public runelibrary patio become useless...

Re: Patch 118 Preview: House/boat item visibility
When I step on a players house and load everything, will all that stuff stay loaded forever, or jsut until next server up?
Re: Patch 118 Preview: House/boat item visibility
No, you have to refresh it after leaving the screen.BlackFoot wrote:When I step on a players house and load everything, will all that stuff stay loaded forever, or jsut until next server up?

Re: Patch 118 Preview: House/boat item visibility
Good question. If I had to guess....
I would assume that it takes a "snapshot" of whatever contents are in the house, as well as any interaction that happened in the house until you wander off-screen.
Then, when you come back to the house, It will remember that "snapshot," then load a new one next time you walk onto the doorsteps.
Am I right?

From what i remember, the sub-server would keep it cached until you leave that sub-server.
IE The Vesper to Minoc server line, and you walk onto the steps of a house near the moongate, jumped the server and went back to the house the cache would clear.

Re: Patch 118 Preview: House/boat item visibility
I think it is valid to ask if this type of "era accuracy" is the goal here.
AFAIK It was done by OSI to improve load times and help slower players (connections/computers) move faster around densly populated areas of player housing.
We do not have very densly populated areas, nor do we have loading/connection/computer problems like in era.
This change can take away multiple aspects of gameplay while (if what i said above is true) provide no real benefit.
This isnt bandage cutting here... it was purely a technical patch wasnt it? Are there game play mechanics that this changes that i cant think of?

True... This is probably another case of "what was the intent?"
If the intent of this change was only to address a technical issue that isn't really applicable now-a-days, Should it still be bothered with?
The only problem is that this is a visually noticeable change. So, do we want to pursue this for "feel" of the era, or the legitimate technical fix it's meant for?
It's a fine line.

Honestly if it affects houses - then all those nice two story villa's (and the ones with that nice porch outside) are going to look bleak.
And I think it's a great question to ask the true intent of this during the OSI period as well. If it was for slow connections & slow computers -- then it makes sense to change this.

Re: Patch 118 Preview: House/boat item visibility
I've had times where I run up next to a house and everything locks up for a good while as my computer loads it all.
This patch helps me, I like it.

Re: Patch 118 Preview: House/boat item visibility
It really is. But also, it does effect players. There are many areas with houses with thousands of items inside, due to no decay in houses, which do cause serious problems for some players.Hoots wrote:I think it is valid to ask if this type of "era accuracy" is the goal here.
Also, mechanically, the boat part of this does very much effect the mechanics of not being able to store anything at all on a small boat, because all tiles can be reached.
I realize it's a strange thing to see; but conversely anyone coming here from OSI would find it equally strange.
