"Young Status"

Post by Taboo »

Patch notes are riddled with references to a "Young" status in the era we are emulating, and yet we don't have one on UOSA.

Seems unproductive for a server on a population rebound.

Young status was patched into live servers on August 26th 1999, this is very close to the November cutoff date. Young status was seen as a patch that was prepping for the coming of UOR and was therefore ruled out as it is not in the spirit of T2A.

Trammel Phase 1.

Young status sucks. It doesn't stop you from getting PK'd, it just stops you from losing your 114gp and bone armor.

Who cares if it was close. Picking and choosing isn't supposed to be what UOSA is about concerning era accuracy, but who knows.

Did some looking and found the quote below in this thread: (note the highlighted text)
Kaivan wrote:Just to clear up a few things, young player tickets were indeed available during 1999. The original rewards list included the following:
  • A sextant.
  • A hair restyle deed.
  • A random ranger armor piece.
  • A fireworks wand.
In August of 2000, the ticket rewards were slightly revised, removing ranger armor and replacing it with a spellbook containing the first 4 circles.

Now, regarding this information and the mandate for accuracy, we have largely steered clear of the young player system due to the ease of abuse for the system. Specifically, if any new accounts are given young status as they were on OSI servers, this would do nothing but encourage the majority of players to find any and every avenue to abuse the ability to create free accounts on UOSA. This is not a healthy result, and squarely places most if not all of the function of the young player system in the exceptions to era accuracy, simply for the purpose of maintaining a functional server.
Of course, changes have been made that supposedly would never happen (auto events brought back), so maybe "young" status isn't off the table completely, but this appears to have been the stance of staff in the past.

Also...

I saw another post (too lazy to look for it again), where someone suggested it would be too easy for someone to abuse this, i.e. have their "young" account player hiding in a dungeon while they farm. Established character kills mobs and drops gp's at "young" character's feet. Young character picks up the gp and acts as a mobile bank since they don't lose the contents of their pack if they get PK'd.

Young status doesn't last very long as is..if some nerd took the time to continuously make new "young" characters it would be embarrassing.
