Join IRC! and IRC Rules *Updated 9/6/13*

Post by Derrick »

The easiest way to join IRC is to click the link "Open IRC Chat Window" which is in the list of links at the far top left of all forums pages.

#SecondAge channel IRC Rules:
  • No backseat moderating.
    (unless you are wearing this hat IRL and can provide a photo of yourself wearing the hat, with your IRC moderation instructions visible in the photo)*just kidding, you may not do this even with the hat on.
  • Absolutely no flaming and bashing of other users in the channel. This is what #uosecondagetears is for, as well as private messaging, your own channel, and the trash talk forums.
  • No excessive profanity, this is at the discretion of a channel operator
  • No racism, religion, drugs, or political discussion
  • Stay on topic. Discussion on things other then UO, should not be at the expense of new users who are trying to get a question answered.
  • User bans are not open to discussion in #secondage
    • The use of this channel is a privilege, we have other channels, specifically #secondagetears or any other channel you want to make where you can say whatever you want.
    • Please contact the #secondage staff if you believe your removal from the channel was unjust.
  • No advertising/spamming/flooding in the channel; No ALL caps.
  • All advertising for in game wares should be directed to one of the various community-run trade channels, such as: #UOSAFreeTrade, #UOSATrade and #Secondagetrade.
  • No channel ban evasion (if you are banned by an operator and deliberately evade the ban, the WildIRC Network staff may be informed, which could result in a ban from the network).
  • No transmitting the personal details of other users (name, phone number, social security number, bank/credit card numbers, etc).
  • Harassment of staff, ban evasion, or botting could be grounds for a shard ban.
  • These rules apply all the time, we will retroactively ban for violations of these rules even if no ops were on at the time.
  • Trading should be conducted in one of the alternative channels specified for trading. Perpetrating scams may not be done in the main IRC channel. Save it for ingame. However don't assume that just because we have this rule people won't try to scam you in channel, but channel bans may be enforced after the fact.
  • Solicitation of our users in IRC for commercial purpose, or the advertising of other games in IRC will result in a permanent ban from all Second Age Services by account and IP. This applies to the solicitation of our users via private messaging as well.
The staff of #SecondAge reserve the right to modify the following set of rules without prior warning, explanation or justification. Failure to comply with these rules may result in your temporary or permanent removal from the channel.

IRC is an text based chat system, which to you connect via client software, the most popular one is mIRC.

Get mIRC here: http://www.mirc.com

Once you have an IRC Client installed on your computer, you need to connect to the IRC Server. The fastest way to do is it to click this link:

irc://irc.freenode.net:6667/secondage

If you want to do this manually, You have to follow these steps;

Launch mIRC
First you will see "options" menu(alt+o). set your nickname to what you want other people to see you as. Suggested is to use your ingame name.

Servers.
In the options menu, you see a list to the left. Under 'Connect' you see 'Servers'.
Click 'Add'.
Description: Second Age IRC
IRC Server: irc.freenode.net
Port: 6667 (Default)
Press 'Add'

Now press 'Connect to Server' and within a few seconds you should see the welcome messages and network information.
To join a channel you type;

/join #secondage

If you use mIRC for IRC, and have registered an account with Freenode, you can set the following script to authenticate you when you log in.

In mIRC, in: tools->options->connect->options->perform
Use this:

/join #secondage
/join #secondagetrade
/join #secondageevents
To Register an account, use the following info:

Due to so many repetitive instances lack of respect for staff members and other participants in the IRC channel #secondage, channel bans will no longer be removed. Bans have been a revolving door in the IRC channel for a handful abusive users.

If you have been banned in our main IRC channel, you are welcome to make your own IRC channel, or use the #secondagepvp channel.

IRC bans are simply IRC channel bans and have no effect on your ability to play on UOSA; however direct abuse of staffmembers in IRC or elsewhere for any reason can have an impact our your game account status.
