getting caught stealing

What are the factors in getting caught? Does it matter whether you are hidden or not? I have GM stealing/stealth/hiding and snooping but I've tried 6 thefts from other players in town and EVERY TIME I got caught! And killed.........is it only good for lifting stuff OUTSIDE of town? At least there I wouldn't get guardwhacked.

sux, should have a chance to, not automatically. I can kind of see how it could be unbalanced, if you steal and steal and steal successfully and never become visible. At least if you successfully steal there's a chance you are not noticed (and don't go grey to them?)

Well, at least with stealth they wouldn't see you coming. That doesn't automatically make another skill check after 10 steps does it? You have to manually activate it again, right?

Take off your robe. A robe gives 3ar. Town stealing should be done naked.

10 stones limit but the lighter the item the less chance of being caught.

As for people nearby, try to time it so there isn't people around.

It's a pity they chose AR as the determining factor rather than just the weight of the equipment. It makes good magic leather and studded armour practically useless.

I think you can, even without being the thieves guild (which allows you to steal from other players) seems like a good way to get regs for free. I think it would have to be random because they don't have bags like toons do.

I wish NPCs didn't have the ability to see you steal through walls.

Well, guess I can conclude town-stealing here sucks. No wonder hardly anyone ever tries to pickpocket me. I remember on Metropolis, you didn't get revealed when stealing (at least not successful thefts- I'm guessing) and there were tons of thieves around the Britain West Bank.

Yes, I was in Metropolis too, I remember that. Lots of thieves snooping you, you needed to bank all your stuff there.
