I couldn't agree more. Let the new players at least get neck deep.
If there are any new players out there reading this thread, PM me and I will gladly help you get on your feet.

Well, if the newbs read a little and learned a few survival skills here, they'd be better off. Just imagine if everyone took precautions, no easy victims Everyone would hide after saying bank, gather resources inside of town, log out after hiding.

That's good to see a change in attitude toward this kind of comment. In the past, when such a thing was spoken, it was almost always immediately greeted with things like "this is Felucca deal with it", "get good", "L2 recall n00b", "maybe this isn't the shard for you".dazedman wrote:I couldn't agree more. Might be a bit too late, since it appears many took suggestion #4 and ran with it, but bravo for finally not insulting this guys mother, wife and children for making such a suggestion.

Re: Is this shard losing it's steam
I think a lot of people think this shard is supposed to be harder. UOSA represents a time in Ultima Online where you were not even safe at the bank, let alone AFK macroing taming to GM. It's so easy to get GM skills here compared to what it was back on OSI yet people still complain.Kye Smogg wrote:That's good to see a change in attitude toward this kind of comment. When I started here the population was already low, but you couldn't go to the dungeon without seeing a few reds. Somehow, even though I had no help, I thrived and stuck around because I earned it. If you give them everything they need and they don't have to work hard for it, will they value the items they have and stick around? I don't think so...

I couldn't agree more on earning your way but being that this shard has been here a while and a lot of us have multiple homes countless piles of 60k, more regs them the stores combined. It doesn't hurt to throw a little bit of help around to give the new people the drive to want to stay and do more and keep playing. I have met more new people the past few days who tell me I'm good but thanks! Because they just have a love for the game and this server. Reds and pvp are core to the game. just glad we all are here and keep it going.
Re: Is this shard losing it's steam
I remember when there were 700+ people online. It was great.
I think one of the reasons the player base has declined is because of a small percentage of douche bags, indeed. Community is everything and some people were just downright rude and full of themselves.

I enjoyed this server when it was thriving, I'm inactive now
I think the big issue is that classic Ultima Online was niche to begin with, and after being around for a few years, many thousands of those people beat the game in their own minds, myself included. We did things we could not do on OSI servers when we were kids, teenagers, whatever.
It really doesn't help now that the populate is this low, there is no excitement, mostly cynicism in the player base that is the most vocal.

I agree that it is niche. I think the reason people leave is because they can''t get sweet sweet pixels or invisible mounts. They move to more trammel servers where if you die, you get a trophy.Eastwood wrote:I enjoyed this server when it was thriving, I'm inactive now

I also am inactive, but have kept my two homes, incase I decide to play again. So I'm certainly not the problem when it comes to housing.

The shard has peaked. The shard went on a long and steady decline when automated events were removed. It eventually leveled off, and stayed fairly consistent since.
While the shard isn't dying, the shard hasn't grown in a meaningful way for a very long time either. It won't grow unless something changes to bring people back in. It's that simple. Until then, the shard is what it is. It will likely continue posting middle to low 100's at peak.
The best way to grow the shard is to change. I'd recommend adding back the thing the drove most of the players to leave for other shards. Outside of heavy advertising (which costs money the shard doesn't have), it is the most likely way to get the subscriptions count back up.
I guess the joke was obvious for people who knew who Telamon was.

When I PK people and offer them a res, they typically refuse to show even after I explain how to.The Gods wrote:and dbags(wont say names) drive new players away by pking them everywhere they go so they cannot make any gold...if ur a pk and see sum1 obviously is new and trying to make money...why drive them away...be a decent person at least when u pk them...res them and dont kill their mount ect...whether ppl like it or not...new players are this shards future...so y drive them away to a diff shard? makes no sensedazedman wrote:It seems to be that way sadly. They're angry that they died and are humiliated. They don't want to give you the satisfaction.Capitalist wrote:When I PK people and offer them a res, they typically refuse to show even after I explain how to.The Gods wrote:and dbags(wont say names) drive new players away by pking them everywhere they go so they cannot make any gold...if ur a pk and see sum1 obviously is new and trying to make money...why drive them away...be a decent person at least when u pk them...res them and dont kill their mount ect...whether ppl like it or not...new players are this shards future...so y drive them away to a diff shard? makes no sensedazedman wrote:It seems to be that way sadly.
