Hello,
I want to train a smith character. And I already have a gm miner.
Q1: why do people's crafter characters always have no mining?
Q2 does smelting speed up blacksmith gains.
Q3 Do you use your smith to make 300 cutglass, and CAN YOU smelt them with another gm miner USING razor on a bag? It is very important that the second gm miner be able to smelt all the items automatically using razor.
Q4 once you have gm smith. Say you craft some plate chests or chain tunic and the success rate is not 100%, I suppose it is easy to use an organizer to put the exceptional items into bag 1, and put the non-exceptional items (if any, I never had a smith) into bag 2 for smelting?
With positive answers to the above ques, do you find it worthwhile to keep mining in the same smith character?
Thank fellow smiths.

1. A lot of people just buy their ingots, and not having mining allows you to have more pure crafting skills on your mule. Many GM and then drop as they develop their mule.
2. Speed up gains? no. Smelting allows you to get more gains out of a given amount of ingots. Spend less time mining, but you dont get any money from your training. More mining gets you more ingots back.
3. You could do that, the restock agent would prob work.
4. The couple times i tried making that macro it didnt work very well, found it easier to just do it the old fashioned way.
Yes, mining is a good skill to have on a new smith.

I agree: mining is a very good skill to have on your smith as it makes the smelting process easy.
Once you GM smithing then you can figure out what you want to do from there I'd say. I still have mining on my smith but did not put 7 mule skills on him.

Re: some smith ques
My main crafter has no mining to allow him to make all of the house add-ons, craft potions and apply poison to weapons. That one character allows me to do so many different things freeing up other character slots. Including my other GM Smith/Miner.freakystuff25 wrote: Q1: why do people's crafter characters always have no mining?
No but it does help with ingot return. You will use fewer ingots smelting the crafted items.freakystuff25 wrote: Q2 does smelting speed up blacksmith gains.
Actually this is easier than you might think. Just make a macro to smelt 1 item convert that item to by type, and then just keep adding the items you want to smelt. Your smelter will attempt to smelt any item of that type that he can 'see'. 'See' can cause issues like your smelt macro hanging up but with a little trial and error it's not that bad.freakystuff25 wrote: Q3 Do you use your smith to make 300 cutglass, and CAN YOU smelt them with another gm miner USING razor on a bag? This is my macro. All I had to do was log in my smelter open my smelt chest and start it up. This was to smelt items I was crafting for my vendor stock.

I did this to keep stock for my vendors for a good while. Your macro should restock, make an item, wait til it is made, check for exceptional message, lift by type to your 'keep' container, check for non-exceptional, lift by type to your smelt container. I used to keep 3 chests full of GM Hallys made up so my macro actually had a counter so that if i had just made an exceptional hally place in chest 1, if i still have a hally place in chest 2 and so forth. I would occasionally find a non-exceptional item in my chest but it wasn't very often. I always just checked them when I pulled them out to put on my vendor.freakystuff25 wrote: Q4 once you have gm smith. My hally macro. You'd have to record your own drops to set the containers.

I always knew that I would have at least 2 GM smiths so I only needed mining on one of them.freakystuff25 wrote: With positive answers to the above ques, do you find it worthwhile to keep mining in the same smith character?
