Armor metals?

Since resistances do not play a factor in T2A with armor what is the advantages of having armor made of all the different types of ore? Is it just a higher armor rating or are there other added properties? Basically why is it worthwhile to have a smith as apposed to just getting magic armor?

And only Magic Armor of Hardening/Fortification/Invulnerability is superior to GM made Armor (which is cheap and available all the Time).
