So - as it happens, I was pulling an old backup onto a new PC and found some pics from the early 2000s of my UO chars. Recalling all the fun I had on GL back in the day, I Googled UO Player Run servers and this one popped up. The excitement logging into Britain for the first time in more than 10 years couldn't be contained, until I realized I was a newb again who was broke and couldn't afford even a bag of 10 reags each.
What's a newbie to do but beg at the bank? Thanks to whomever it was that threw some gems on the ground after I went trooping past spamming "Alms for the poor!"
Just wanted to drop all the players and admins a note to say thanks for keeping UO alive! I've already got 4 old guildmates back and setting up accounts.
Keep up the great work!

Welcome to UOSA.
Do I surmise correctly that most of your OSI experience was post-Nov23-1999? If that's true, you will find a lot of things here won't work exactly how you remember.
The awesome thing about this shard is that it is dedicated to replicating 100% mechanical accuracy, as of what OSI had in-place, Nov. 23rd, 1999.
OSI had made a lot of changes with the launch of UO:R in early 2000: those changes, and all subsequent ones, do not exist here; this ruleset is 100% pure pre-UO:R.
Please, don't be put-off by "encountering the unexpected": ask, here, or in IRC/Discord; consult the Forum's Master Guide List; visit our Wiki (tab link above the forum page); use The Wayback Machine to research and investigate any inquiries you develop (most of the links in the side-bar there still work).
To answer your question, your brand-new characters will have to earn money before you can aspire to do anything too ambitious: a 50/50 Bowyer/Lumberjack can earn you some easy "Guard Zone" money (start in Britain); if you know how to quickly "fast-track" the development of a Bard, even better (though, more risky). IIRC, I got my start "Lumberbowing", and dragging escort-NPCs through the Moon Gates: Young Byrhthelm has come a long way, since.
Good luck to you, and your friends!

Hail and well met!
Bard/lockpick can be good. You can grind the lvl4 dungeon chests(get a rune book for all of them) and make some pretty good gold, and magic items.

Good on you for coming to UO Second Age, it truly is a masterpiece.
If you would ever like my personal tour (20 min) of UO and a free rune book, I would be delighted to hook you up with some gear too.

I started originally in late 98, early 99 so I did get an introduction to this age. Most of my playtime was post-Trammel so there are certainly aspects I miss but so far, I've had a good experience and the folks on this shard are incredibly nice. I've been a killed a couple time macroing but what can you do, it happens.SighelmofWyrmgard wrote:Welcome to UOSA.

Thanks! I'll definitely look into it. I had a newbie bard toon at one point in history but never did work it up. Now's my chance...Kabal wrote:Hail and well met!

That would be awesome - trying to recall all the info on mechanics, locations, strategies has been challenging.Jallion wrote:Good on you for coming to UO Second Age, it truly is a masterpiece.

I'm on Discord as DIVETX and when not in the woods killing and/or lumberjacking, my toons can be found at W Brit Bank (Kyan Darkbow, Rellik Darkbow, CSC Lumberjack, Ronin Darkbow).
