Help with configuring game music

Post by Francois424 »

Hello,

Is there anyway to keep the music on AND removing the damn endless jukebox repeats ?
I remember back what I played this on OSI, the music would play once and be silent afterwards (except combat music, but I always deleted those)

Any help appreciated, thanks.

Every install I always delete the T2A music and replace it with the AOS music. The music is one of the few things that improved as the game got older.
<Layt> note to self (and others)
<Layt> do not magic arrow braden
<Zebulone> He has inf reflect
<Layt> more like reflect and amplify
<Layt> it was a death sequence unlike any other i had ever seen

I would like to disagree, somewhat...

I think some of the original MIDI files that got stuck in my head were part of the reason I loved this game so much. The Minoc theme is forever engraved in my memory. Chopping wood throughout town and humming that song is just like BUTTAH! And by BUTTAH I mean the greatest.

Ok, found it...
You go into the music folder, and just delete the music that you don't want to play.

Basically, all 'oldultima' sounds as they are jukebox material.
Also, combat music can be trashed (or replaced) as well.
It's easy as that, and working like a charm.

For any interested peep !

Talking about configuring the game music,

I have long wanted to get the old music into my UO (I have some crappy new music) but haven't manage to make it work. Since I'm running UO on a MAC via a program called Wineskin UO would refuse to work if I changed anything in the UO folder. But all of a sudden I could remove the crappy music and place old music into the music folder. But when trying it out in game I get some strange Brazilian carnival style of music instead, which I've never heard before.

I'll try to find another set of the old music to put into the folder. But, my question is, will this be enough? Just put the old music files into the music folder? Wont I need some sort of script directing when certain songs should play etc?

Can't help you much on mac, sorry.

---

As for more info about the music...
Whenever they changed the client I do not know, but the game dosen't even acknowledge if you are in a forest / plain / mountain or Jungle anymore.
I've tested it extensively the last evening and this morning, and the same spot (ie: forest) plays randomly from the 4 mentionned music track.

---

It's a minor thing, but it's utterly annoying. God is there anymore ways OSI/EA could have scewn the game over (answer: yes).
What I woudn't give to be able to reprogram these things to my likings.
Oh well...

At least now it dosent jukebox in town and I've got my selection of music back.

I think one of the issues is the lack of attention to assigning music to many of the outdoor regions, there are a lot of regions....

One other thing that we are missing are the random wildlife sounds.
Thanks for the link, the above clearly explains why the client dosent know which one from the 4 to play.
It simply does not *know* if you are in a forest/plain/mountain or swamp, so plays randomly.

Looking forward to the minor fixes in the future

I have always turned off all music. Normally I have my own music playing on the computer. Is there any reason that could help in game play with the music on?

Or is it just because it brings back memories?

Memories for sure... Nostalgia factor is for much... and I'm OCD like that.

Why is the swamp music playing near Despise where it sould be the mountain tune ?
Then why is montain theme playing at my house (forest tiles) ?
ARRRRGGGGHHHHH...

It's as close as it gets tho ! 8)
