Isn't following regular mechanic activity, when you command it to stop it shouldn't attempt to attack you unless you leave and re-enter combat targeting the npc for hire, or for example you have a poison dagger and are beating on a npc which no longer fights back, once the poison goes off he should resume hitting you because a new action took place, not from a consecutive swing, is there any attempt to fix this?
This is mainly for new people coming back to the game that might get severly annoyed by this inaccuracy alone, as my combat skills are all done for the most part.

there shouldn't be a way to get npcs to ignore your hitting completely (not era accurate).. but atm there are a few ways to do it.

Actually, there's an easy way to do this.
Trap him with boxes (tables, etc.), you say "all guard me", enter war mode, attack, say "all follow me", without tabbing out you run about a screen away and come back.
You should be hitting him and he should not hit back. If he hits back, try again, running a bit farther. If you're not hitting him try again but run a bit closer.

Re: Hirling Stop!
Yeah you can also just invis after your swing.
Precast invis, wait until your character takes a swing and then release the invis. When you take your next swing, the NPC won't hit back anymore. If the NPC quits or goes untame, it will tab back in.
Works with pets and hirelings.
