Proposed new changes to item decay in next patch.
Hi,
I've just logged in and read the new automated message which advises there will be a change to the way items decay in houses. Does this mean that every item will have to be locked down individually, or can they still be stored in locked down chests?
Thanks
Williams.

What it means is that newbiefied items and body parts will decay in your house if they are not locked down.
For instance, if you leave the clothing that a character starts with on the ground without locking it down, it will decay quickly. Newbie daggers, regs, and other items will do this as well. I also believe that this applies to house deeds as well.
Body parts are not newbiefied, but they will decay in a house as well, provided they are not locked down.

Body parts take for-freakin-ever to decay here for some reason. They are supposed to decay in like 2 minutes.
But yeah, what matron said.

Thanks alot Matron, thats cleared things up nicely.

The body part decay was effective on OSI in a patch on 4/13/1998:
I can't find the info on newbie item decay right now; this one has been on my list for a long time though.
And yes, housedeeds are newbie and follow the same decay rules as other newbie items.
Be advised that some of our early holiday gifts are also newbie.
We do not belive of course that this was truely "wherever they were kept", they would not decay in your backpack or in a container in your house.Ultima Online Patch Notes for 04/13/1998 wrote: Body parts from chopping corpses will decay at an accelerated rate, and will also decay regardless of where they are kept.

I accidently killed a npc last night and body parts are still there. I'm going to dump them in the trash.

Yes, this patch is not live yet.
We're targeting Monday morning.

umm, house deeds are newbiefied? because here (http://wiki.uosecondage.com/?title=House) it says they are not.
sigh, all that "omigods i gotta place my house right away! my hard earned house deed may be stolen or some badass pk can materialize and cut my head off!" paranoia gone to waste...

I updated this wiki topic.Derrick wrote:House deeds are noobie and may not be stolen from you by a thief or looted from your corpse if you die, as long as they are kept in the top level of your pack. This does not apply to Murderers, noobied items are not protected on Reds.

Does this decay patch affect the 3 open areas in a keep ? Those 3 spots that you used to be able to teleport into. I marked runes to those 3 spots, and have been using them for storage and deco.

Re: Proposed new changes to item decay in next patch.
isnt this just for body parts and noobie items? so if I have a chest full of stuff inside that keep area it should still remain right?
Re: Proposed new changes to item decay in next patch.
Aye, a chest inside will remain safe, as long as the chest is not newbie, which to my knowledge is not possible.
I'm currently looking into enabling decay for all items in the spaces in houses which are not actually within the house as well (castle courtyards, keep "spaces" and under tower wings outside). This is of course accurate to OSI and is just something that we never got to.
On the suggestion of a player (not sure if he wants to be named) we will Not be decaying these items until they are moved again. this will give players all the time in the world to clean up their houses.
The same will be the case for items in courtyards and underneath tower wings if we do put this in the patch.
I will also attempt to disable the running underneath a tower wing from causing the loading of the house contents, and also allow visibility of items under tower wings if the house is not entered.

So are you saying no more 'secured' (read: boxes) in the castle courtyards? yet if a player already has the boxes there and they never move them they will have a grandfathered secured castle?
