So I sit here bored at work, as usual; So i decide to do a few calculations.
I sell flamestrike scrolls quite often and know how much they sell for.
So with someone who has the time, and patience you could buy a tower with out and danger to yourself..
The only things that you would have to consider:
Gathering the resources, making the scrolls, Failures, and selling at maximum profit
How many Flamestrike Scolls would it take to buy a Tower:
Target Amount
433,200gp
Resources:
a blank scroll - 4gp
sulfur ash - 3gp
spider's silk - 3gp
Calculations
300 Flamestrike will sell for 10,800gp
433,200 / 10,800 = 40.111 (rounded to 42)
300 scrolls * 42 repetitions = 12600 scrolls
12600 scrolls * 4gp = 48132 gp
12600 SS * 3gp = 36099 gp
12600 SA * 3gp = 36099 gp
48132 + 36099 + 36099 =120330gp (total)
Time:
12600 * 9 = 113400 (seconds)
113400 / 60 = 1890 (minutes)
1890 / 60 = 31.5 (hours)
Time calculations does not take into account of restocking/organization of materials; or gathering of materials
Break Down
12600 scrolls, SS, SA
Total Cost of all resources : 120330gp
p.s.
God im bored at work -_-
*Edited with corrections to SS & SA prices per unit

When you play with fire, there is a 50/50 chance something will go wrong, and nine times out of ten it does.

Haha, nice! I was just wondering to myself if it was a waste of time crafting items and selling them back to NPC vendors. I was actually thinking about smithing, but I have a scribe as well, and it would probably be less painful to collect regs and scrolls than to mine tons of ore.
I noticed, however, training my blacksmith, that vendors will lower their prices after you've sold them a lot of the same item. So you have to constantly recall between city shops to keep getting their initial offer. So I suspect a lot of time would be involved in the selling of 12,000+ scrolls..
Might just be better to stick with killing things and looting. Even if I do suck at it.

Re: Calculations of a Scribe
Thats why i stated "selling at maximum profit". I've gathered you can tell a NPC Vendor sell 6 times to get max profit. 6x5=30 so 30 scrolls each npc,; 30 x 10 = 300. 10 NPC

A tower with no risk - priceless.Krats wrote:Resources:

Seriously, I think SA and SS sell for 3 gp each. You might wanna redo your calculations.
Re: Calculations of a Scribe
If you want another thing to consider.. Tailoring.
Buy spools of thread, make cloth, make fancy shirts, sell them back.
in 3 or 4 hours work, I turned my starting 100g into 5200.

Re: Calculations of a Scribe
Or sell the FS scrolls to Players at 70 or even 65 gold each and cut that all in half!
But if you want truly zero risk / NPC items to get a tower, your best bet would be to tailor.
And yes, all NPC vendors will lower buying price after so many are bought.
Before this was implemented, I made poison scrolls, and sold them to NPC vendors.
Made almost a million doing that before Derrick changed it
