Re: backed out auction
on some forums I have seen this thing called an i trader reputation kinda like the feedback on ebay. you can give a plus one or a negative one depending on how the transaction went. i think this would be cool.
Re: backed out auction
This is just a real quick thought.
Under the selling forum add a auction sub forum.
Auction forum will have rules that if the poster wishes to post an auction he is held by these rules by threat of ???????
Sellers could still post for sale stuff in the regular forum but if something is in the auction forum then both buyers and sellers are bound by the forum rules. This sub forum should not allow editing and removing posts. If an error is listed its on the seller (or buyer) to notify the forum mod within a reasonable time or they are held to the error.
No one would be forced to post here so you can still have era accurate shady bidders/buyers/sellers in the selling forum.
If something like this starts to work people wont bid on things until the seller posts it in the auction forum.
Just some quick thoughts.

Rules require enforcement.Hoots wrote:This is just a real quick thought.

I know, thats why i have the ????'s... Not sure what you could do. Forum ban? And on top of that it is alot to ask of volunteers to enforce things. Like i said... it was just a quick thought.Ronk wrote:Rules require enforcement.Hoots wrote:This is just a real quick thought.

Re: backed out auction
Ive not read the thread as im about to go cook dinner, so this may have already been said but:Derrick wrote:I'm not sure what the best way to resolve something like this would be, I don't think forbidding of editing posts in the trade forums would work either, but I'd love to hear recommendations on this.
At face value though my thoughts are that people might often be not happy with the results of an auction and desire to pull the item, the concept of a secret reserve bid (ebay) comes to mind.
1. Striclty enforced auction rules. If auction do not adhere to this structure, thread is deleted and seller is noted in hall of shame threa[in lieu of a rep system].
2. Another mod to help BF enforce this. I know he does alot and is busy, maybe he could do with some help in there.
The trade forum here is a joke, i wont bid or sell anything on it due too the current lack of anything even resembling a structured rule set. People who claim no one bids until the last hour, then snipe each other and you dont get the money you want, set a minimum bid, its simple really.
Starting Bid:
Bid Increment:
Buyout:
End date:
It really is that simple. Look at that other shardes trade forums, they are exceptional to be honest, they make ours look amatuer.
?
Re: backed out auction
People need to be able to edit their posts. People forget details, make typos, put in wrong sections. I really dont see a way to have threads uneditable. If they were uneditable I would get 100 pms a day asking to edit their posts for them. I wouldnt be able to keep up.
Threads being removed -
The only times I will remove a thread from the forum are
- PM request from the original poster (I will honour their request always)
- The thread has passed 3-4 months inactive on the forum
- Their is a SOLD PLS REMOVE message in the thread itself
No thread is ever deleted, just moved to archives.
The only time I will ever edit a thread (remove a follow up post) -
- Report Flag - any user can leave one with a reason why they feel it shoudl be edited
If the reason is valid I will edit (99% of these are obvious flames off topic remarks and i simply remove the post)
- PM request from original poster with valid reason
- I have never been skimming the forums and edited anything myself without being asked.
I have pulled many threads back out of archives for people upon request.

Re: backed out auction
Am I one of the only people who feel that a forum post in the "for sale" section should not be a legal binding contract? If you post something there, expect to get offers. If you posted an "auction", you will probably get buyout offers, some people just do not like to wait. What it comes down to is this, the seller posted an item up for grabs, regardless of "auction" format, anyone who views it has a chance to make an offer in some way. If you guys want to lowball the auctions all day on "leet rares" that's fine, but don't get huffy when someone offers a reasonable amount and the seller sells, you had the exact same opportunity to offer a buyout or a reasonable amount to pursuade the seller to stay with the auction format.
Re: backed out auction
neither of my horsedung auctions were sold to anyone .. none were sold out to a higher bitter and both had a min price. which was meet and exceeded .. instead they opted to first save for steps for himself .. the second to display his self .. either way if they wanted to keep items them keep them out of auctions. if they don't want to sell for a "low" price then up your min bid or place no min bid and state that this item is not for sell for just any price but taking offers (and i would suggest this apporch might should be filed in price check.. its not that hard of a concept .. you want to keep it you want to sell it .. you'll take this much or more for it....

Re: backed out auction
Require the seller to state a min-bid if they have a reserve bid in mind
I agree with the poster above, give a couple warnings and if it hits a third time, simply ban them from the selling forums

Re: backed out auction
Nothing to really report on this just don't want it to be dead (arc) topic even though it is very old and out of date.

Re: backed out auction
Just reword the sale in a non auction format.
How much would you give me for "X"...
I will be looking at all offers and will decide if i want to sell if I see a good offer.
timeframe optional.

Re: backed out auction
As annoying as it is when someone backs out of an auction, it's equally annoying to expect everyone to put a friggin disclaimer at the bottom of their auctions that says:
"I reserve the right to end this at any time. I reserve the right to not sell to certain people I don't trust. I reserve the right to have a reserve price that must be met or I won't sell the item." etc etc etc
I see the Trade Forum as a method of facilitating trade between people that might not have otherwise come across each other.
