Thanks for the warm welcome back!
I logged on last night after a long time away, and of course I had not thought to empty my house before the break, so I found myself w/ ~1.5k gold and a hatchet of might in my bank. 'Swell!' I thought. Oh well. Might as well get started. So I load up on reggies, throw the remaining 300 gold back in the bank, and head outta town to find something to kill. Before I make it 5 screens, I'm murdered by a rather pathetic bluebie. Ugh, there goes all the gold I have left to rebuild. 'Wait!' I thought. I have a crafter somewhere I could make some gold with.
Soooo I switch accounts and log in with the crafter, dig up >1k ingots, and head to town. Well, I obviously dont make it to town, and neither did my ingots.
Despite being initially excited about playing again, I have to say it was rather discouraging to run into more murderers than not in only my first 2 hours back. At least the murderers back in my day had some class. Where's the thrill in killing someone wearing nothing but a ghost robe already?!

Re: Thanks for the warm welcome back!
My personal opinion is that the greifers and exploiters are basically being handed the game right now, because there's no policy in place to curb it, as there was back in the day. This is due to a number of reasons that could be discussed and debated at great length.
I hope and wish you strength and the determination to carry on nonetheless.

The game hasn't been handed to anyone.
Nobody has a totally free run of this game. At some point, everyone runs into a bigger fish in the ocean. Sure, sometimes I can't use the areas of the game I want to, but it's not just because of reds. Because I don't want to push in on someone else's action I'll leave an area if a blue is already there. Sometimes I'll even leave if another shows up to let them have it.
You're going to run into other players in this game because of the type of game it is. It sucks when you run into the jerks that play it, but if you want a game (or even a version of UO) where you're never going to run into the jerks then this game, maybe even this genre isn't for you.

True. This is bound to happen anytime you deal with a number of people online. That I wont disagree on. Murphy's law seems to in full force for MMOs in general.
But it's a fact that there were in-era systems, policies, etc. in place in the production shards that resulted in the population of reds being in check that doesn't exist in UOSA because they either can't or won't be implemented.

Honestly, if the policies and such were so successful they would not have had to implement Trammel for the care bear players.
I'd like to know how they were so successful.
Granted, the stat-loss system is watered down here due to multiple accounts, but it is still a penalty. What else are we missing? Griefing? There's a policy, and NOBODY gets griefed here to the level that brought involvement from OSI.
The only thing we don't have is packs of blues hunting down the packs of reds (there weren't enough back in OSI days either from what I can tell). That isn't because of policies or mechanics, it's because the blues who would hunt reds are pvpers. My theory is the population isn't big enough to limit them to hunting reds so they may as well hunt everyone (we're talking OSI level populations, we have a good size population).
My preference is the old, old system... before fame/karma/murder... But it's not era accurate, so we learn to work within the system that is.

Thes kinds of posts always confuse me a little. I hunt in fairly popular areas, and almost never run into reds. I haven't been pked in a month, and I only run into reds once or twice a week at these locations. When I do see a red name show up on my screen i instantly cast recall and head on out. The closest I've come to being pked lately was yesterday. I was fighting blood eles and a red showed up and managed to interrupt my recall. He kept hitting me with harm over and over to disrupt me.....finally on the 5th or 6th attempt his timing got out of wack and I was able to get out.

Why? If you're killing dragons, or something that requires minor effort on your part, make a f'n recall macro, use it. Don't be greedy. So what if you lose some dragon loot, better than dying.
Play like your life is in jeopardy whenever you hunt. This is just smart. If you die because you're stupid, well...
Making rules and enforcing standards on people that are doing nothing wrong isn't fair. Don't be a democrat.

I dont support any sort of oversight in the world of murdering. I just wonder if, as sooo many years have elapsed since UO has been released, have many lost all sense of 'fun' with the game, and have nothing left to do but run around causing chaos for everyone? Murderers, in my experience, were usually more organized/picky/etc. From what I ran into, it felt like the world was plauged with people with nothing left to do but grief.

I'm not aware of any era systems or polices that were in place to keep reds in check with the exception of stat loss, which is alive and well here.Duke Jones wrote:

Re: Thanks for the warm welcome back!
I think he was referring to the policy of policing griefing, which is why I addressed that. The truth is, the only people who really grief pretty much grief each other. If it ever truly were an issue, I do believe it would be taken care of.Ooompa Loompa wrote:I'm not aware of any era systems or polices that were in place to keep reds in check with the exception of stat loss, which is alive and well here.Duke Jones wrote:

The only real policy for murderers on OSI that I know of was if they pretty much prevented anyone else from accessing an area. Neither this, nor griefing, is an issue on this server so far as I can tell.

WTF. I log in this morning after logging out at the brit bank, and find myself dead. I seriously got murdered sitting at the bank? I'm not sure I can believe these accounts of 'I never get PKed'. This is really ridiculous...
Re: Thanks for the warm welcome back!
Never log out at bank much less brit bank .. logging out at bank or in world results in your char sitting idle for about 5mins .. easy target .. instead log out in a house you own or are a friend of. or of course there is always an Inn.

get out of brit, dont go by brit gy. stay away from high traffic spots. on osi i would get pked constantly on europa by this pk godess who wouldnt hesitate to kill anyone. even newbs.
find a safe way to delucia, or cove, and mine those areas. even minoc is relatively safe. ur just in the most frequented places by griefers/pks.
